ISO: 13 Ways of Looking At a Summer Shoe
Annie and I keep texting about a new summer shoe. She doesn’t want a ballet flat and we agree the Salter House clogs are everywhere now.
I remember seeing them for the first time on Skyler last April. I search “Gardena Clog” into my texts and see I tried to push them on Bhavik after I saw them on Skyler.
The year before, I had gotten the sandals Bhavik wore all summer. They arrived after I had already left for Italy. Benji was living at my apartment and gave them to Arielle to give to me in Puglia.
When I packed for my three week trip to Italy, I only brought two pairs of shoes. I flew home with four: there was the pair Arielle brought via Benji and the pair of clear jelly water shoes I bought on the side of the street to better swim Lake Garda’s rocky shores with Dina.
Another time, I left a pair of shoes in Italy...I don’t remember all of the specifics.
This summer, I’ll keep wearing the Miu Miu flats Ruby tracked down for me after this ISO. Is there anything as special, as sweet as knowing the size and shape of someone else’s desires.
I like to imagine wearing Una Sandals all summer but the last time I wore my Maryam Nassir Zadeh Palma High Sandals they hurt so badly I started counting my steps home in increments of ten between the train and my apartment.
Is Annie’s best option a loafer….?
I log into CoStar for the first time since I downloaded it and my daily report tells me not to wear red shoes. Actually, it says “Don’t: Red Shoes.” I send the warning straight to Maya. I wonder if the CoStar programmers read The Angels Wanna Wear My Red Shoes.
Last year, I fell down the stairs because I tripped in my shoes. I still wear the Camper Thelma’s but I can feel what it felt like to hit the ground so I take them off before stairs. In the days after my accident, before I could take the stairs again, I’d throw my keys out my apartment window so Nick could come up to do my dishes.
I text Ruby a dissertation identifying a new subset of girl. I knows she knows what I am talking about when she says that her shoes’ are a Tabi loafer.
I wonder when the Una Sandals will go on sale. I measure the height of my Palma Sandals to see if they will be less painful but they are the same height as the Una’s.
Next week Kate will move around the corner and instead I can count the steps between my apartment and hers.
